About Me

My photo
Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Junk Journaling too. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Art Journaling, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing, but am plagued by a bad back. I like walking which I couple with Geocaching and sometimes Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I guess I am officially retired now. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

Childhood Book

For my second Art Journal Page I wanted to use the theme from a SWAP card that I'd done on our craft group UKPC last year. So I made a card then went on to make a scrapbook page and now the AJ page.

The theme was inspired by the various magazines with cards based on "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz" and it was to make a card based on a book which held a particular memory for you as a child. My book was "The Island of Adventure" by Enid Blyton. I'd found it in my new bedroom when we went to live in Wales from Devon. It sparked a love of reading and I devoured the Famous Five afterwards.

Unfortunately a teacher had said these books were too young for me when I was about 12yrs so I stopped reading all together. Until I was in my twenties, that is, when I was waiting for a train on Blackfriars Station and spotted "The Wench is Dead" by Colin Dextor and as I was a MORSE fan this inspired me again.

What book do you remember as a child?

Hi BJ and thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind words on my journal pages. Great idea to base a journal page on your favourite childhood books - I would be spoiled for choice as I was never without one on the go. I loved Famous Five as well - if I could have changed my name to George I would, much better than the soppy 'Anne'. More favourites are Heidi (I wanted to sleep in a loft on soft hay), Black Beauty (re-read this last year and was very disappointed) and Little Women (guess which one I wanted to be).

Brilliant! I'm not sure I remember the books I liked as a kid. I do remember a teacher taking a book away from me that I was really enjoying because she thought I was reading it too slowly. The book she gave me in it's place I hated and of course 'read' really quickly because I turned several pages over at a time without reading them. What do teachers know hey? LOL!

Oh wow! Another Morse fan. I watched it faithfully on PBS, but never read any of Colin Dexter's books.

I stopped by to let you know you have the details of the AB class correct: every other week, starting next Monday (late Sunday night in my world) for a total of 40 weeks. Glad you have found a good book, and picked a theme. I made an AB entitled "Seasons" a few years ago. I broke each season up with various embellishments that stuck above or to the side of the first page in each season. I know you will love your book.

Lovely pages BJ. The background on your Enid Blyton page is particularly effective - I love the journalling in the waves it's such a fab idea! Juliax
