About Me

My photo
Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Junk Journaling too. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Art Journaling, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing, but am plagued by a bad back. I like walking which I couple with Geocaching and sometimes Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I guess I am officially retired now. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

Altered Book Part IV (lesson 6)

Had this page milling about in my head for a few weeks now so just had to make it. Found lots of pictures on the internet to depict our 3 Saints Days which fall in Spring. I even opened up my new acrylic paints for the first time and had a go at painting the pages.
Firstly, St David of Wales. I grew up in Wales from the age of 9yrs and dressed up like the picture in national costume for Eisteddford's in school to celebrate the day. The yellow and black flag is St David's flag the dragon is the Welsh flag. The leek is the emblem of Wales along with the floral version of the daffodil. I made a pathway using daffodils through the spread.

Secondly, St Patrick of Ireland. I lived in Dublin when I was 18yr-19yrs and studied the Irish Leaving Certificate there. Always wanted to play the harp and hoping there will be one reserved for me in heaven along with those big fluffy white wings!!

Lastly, St George of England. I was born in The Midlands and now live in Surrey in England, although I'd never think of myself as English, always British as that is what it says on my passport, I do speak English though!!

As for the design principles - now that is a diffucult one. The Movement one certainly grabbed me so the pathway of daffodils hopefully makes you wander round the page as it were. Contrast, well the colours are quite striking! Repetition, the flags and also the row of stamps with the little girl adding more contrast there. Not sure about its Rhythm nor Dominance but I have done a page of the Saints and I'm happy with it.

Ooh nice! What a great idea!

Sadly I've only managed one page for lesson 5 :( just couldn't concentrate much.

Thanks for sharing your lovely pages.

Take care

Love the bright colours BJ! I have pictures of my daughter dressed in the Welsh costume ready for St David's Day at school - What memories you have brought back!

I'm either late (because you posted awhile back), or early (because the link won't be ready for a few days), but I really, really like this spread on your Saints.

I took a long look at the pages, then looked away and quickly turned back. I hoped to find the dominant piece in this spread, but couldn't find one. However, like you, I'm thrilled with these two pages. I'll even come back when you post them to Mr. Linky!

This is a beautiful spread on the Saints! I think the way you arranged them with the blocks of color certainly direct your eye around the page also.

My favorite part is the daffadil pathway, it definitely creates movement! Love it. I do hope you get the harp in heaven and not me as I am tone death and would hate to think of all the angels cringing when I played! HA! Now, gotta ask, and remember I am across the pond...lol...what's the difference between being British and English? waving hi from the beautiful hills of North Carolina :)

And the only one you have to please is yourself. The daffadil trail is a neat idea.
