About Me

My photo
Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Junk Journaling too. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Art Journaling, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing, but am plagued by a bad back. I like walking which I couple with Geocaching and sometimes Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I guess I am officially retired now. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

Craft Club - Pearls

Ashtead Craft Club, my 3rd new craft club this month, were looking at pearly things this time. One table was using Liquid Pearls and Cosmic Shimmer PVA and the other Cosmic Shimmer powders. I opted for the former as I have just got into Liquid Pearls.

I bought my first one from Oysterstamps when I met up with some internet friends for the first time earlier this year, I started with Platinum Pearl. I received my next one in a surprise giveaway bundle, Royal Blue. I chose my 3rd from my Alpha Challenge win from The Craft Barn, Rouge and bought my last one actually at The Craft Barn for their re-opening, Onyx Pearl. I did buy a Cosmic Shimmer, coloured Pearlescent PVA last year as the Biggin Hill Sincerely Yours Show too (keep forgetting that one - LOL) that's in Olympic Gold - how could I resist that last year LOL.

Various techniques were demonstrated.
1) adding pearly drops to stamped images.
2) creating a pearly background.
3) making strings of pearls flourishes.

I did 3 of the first technique, all with varying success. I smudged the brown one so had to make a "feature" of the centres! The pink and blue ones were better so I had to be real careful transporting them home!

The pearly background (blue card) used Cosmic Shimmer PVA and splodged it on some background card using scrunched up greaseproof paper. After it was dry adding distress inks for colour and the PVA resisted giving a lovely mottled pearly effect.

I've not tried the flourishes yet. I just made the toppers and embossed pieces at the club and made the cards up at home. If anyone knows the make of the lovely dandelion embossing folder I am all ears. Loved that one. Think I "need" some pretty coloured Liquid Pearls now as well!

I don't have a lot of pearls either, 3 to be exact, but I do love how they look. Sounds like you have a fun group to craft with and push you to use different mediums! Your cards look fabulous! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina ♥

Hi BJ, love the effects you have obtained with the pearls. I have two, white opal and gold pearl, but forget to use them. I like the look of the red one ... can see it would look great on berries. I have a Darice Dandelions folder which may be the one you are looking for. Elizabeth xx

Hi BJ.

Good to see your finished cards. They look great. I found out the make of the embossing folder - it's by Hobby Solutions. Glitter Pot sell it and so do Samuel Taylor's - it's called Ball Flowers.

Glad you enjoyed it.
See you soon
