On 12 Months in View this month we were tasked to recycle old maps and there was also a technique called Rubber Band Embossing.
I attempted to combine the two on a page in my journal and just the technique on my August tag. Both pieces left much to be desired.
I used distress embossing powder on the tag version and now know this was a bad idea. In fact I don't really like distress embossing powders at all! I sanded down the embossing powder before I inked and painted this tag with the Geocaching logo as we are doing the 31 in 31 challenge this month.
On my page I used an old map of the Gower Peninsular as that was where we went at the end of July. I stuck it on and covered with a thin layer of gesso. Then I had a go at the Rubber Band Embossing. Shame that the sticking and gesso had made my page all bumpy, which in turn made the Versamark cover other areas not just the rubber band lines from the brayer!
I inked the resultant page (blue and green) to emphasise the original map which was by now sort of obliterated! Still it was a mess. I added place names of where we went. Still a mess. Then I remembered a seaside patterned paper I bought about 8yrs ago when I first started scrapping and cut out the elements to compliment our holiday. I guess the end page isn't that bad now.
About Me
- BJ
- Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of Watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Faith/Art Journaling too. I've challenged myself to make an art journal page a day for this my 60th year. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing. I also like walking/Geocaching and sometimes do a bit of Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I have been learning to play the harp for the past 10yrs. I am now officially retired. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

I like them both, BJ, probably because I can't see the imperfections you can ... I like the effect the rubber bands make and it's such a good idea to craft with maps ... I love maps. If I was more able I'd love to get involved with geocaching, it sounds like a really fun thing to do. Elizabeth xx
Never seen this before, I shall have to try it. I agree with Elizabeth, I like both. I also like the map thing, always adds interest.
Cassidy xx
