Some may think my personal theme is nursery rhymes or even fruit like Karen but no, it is special days!
Little did I know, in the playground as a child, that the Oranges and Lemons nursery rhyme/singing game is actually celebrated as a special day on the 3rd Thursday in March each year!
Apparently when the Thames was wider, the wharf where the citrus fruit cargoes from the Mediterranean were delivered lay just across the street from the church and their bells pealed when a cargo arrived.
St Clement Danes church, holds an annual service commemorate this. The children from the local Primary School attend a special service and at the end the fruit is given out.
A carillon plays the Oranges and Lemons tune at St Clements every day at 9am, noon, 3pm and 6pm.
For my page I made a couple of stamps for the oranges and lemons which I stamped and clear embossed around the border. I inked over it all with green. I got the picture and rhyme from the internet.

What a fab page BJ, I love your hand-made stamps, brilliant. Thank-you so much for the history too, I've always wondered about the origin of the rhyme, what a lovely celebration and wonderful to hear that it is still honoured.
Huge huggles x x x x
Hi BJ,
What a great page. The image you chose off the internet is the perfect one!
Thanks for sharing.
Peace,

Well aren't YOU the clever one. That must be a pretty location/site specific celebration. I've never heard of it. But then, I apparently haven't heard of a lot of different and unique holidays.
Those stamps you made were truly clever and looked quite realistic, too. I'm quite impressed.
Well I never! You live and learn all the time eh. I just never knew that it was a special day BJ. Thank you for blogging about that my lovely. Love your pages and your home made stamps :D xxx

This is a gorgeous illustration of your dictionary definition and - as always - such an interesting choice! I know St Clement Danes, but I never knew this little anecdote about it! Love the purity of the colours in this and the lovely central image. Julie Ann Lee xx
Gorgeous page BJ. The colours and imagery you have used just make the page pop. Great idea to make your own stamps. I wouldn't have been brave enough to put green over the top of stamped images but it really paid off.
Wonderful page - happy and colorful!
Sandy
