About Me

My photo
Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Junk Journaling too. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Art Journaling, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing, but am plagued by a bad back. I like walking which I couple with Geocaching and sometimes Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I guess I am officially retired now. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

Craft Club - Alcohol Inks

At Ashtead Craft Club last night they focused on Alcohol Inks.

I have played around with these inks before and one splodge background is much like another really.

The landscape technique leaves a lot to be desired, perhaps some stamping will sort mine out.

But I was quite taken by the flower cards, so yes this technique was my favourite. Neither technique is very precise, you tend to get different results each time you try and this was referred to as it being "organic".

For the flowers, it was quite easy really. Just one drop of ink on some non porous paper and let it spread naturally. Not sure exactly what paper they had at club but that created more uneven flowers (red and turquoise). At home I tried it on some satin card (pink) and glossy photographic paper (orange) and they both made more even circles as the ink spread out.

The leaves were done using a cocktail stick dipped in the ink and spread on the paper. The black lines are hand drawn doodles on the dried ink circles and leaves.

The butterflies were punched from matching ink coloured scraps of paper.

Five little flower cards all done.

Ooh not played with alcohol inks for ages. Love the flowers, the look like they've been painted using watercolours. Will have to have a go.

Haven't had alcohol inks out for a while myself! The flowers look interesting but I think the landscape backgrounds would be interesting with some silhouette stamping over the top maybe? And now I'm struggling to remember - what ink pad should that be? It's been a long time!!

I was never really impressed with the AIs. I never seemed to get much more than a bunch of hodge-podge. But YOURS are extremely lovely and interesting. I really enjoyed the flowers.

BTW, I've never owned glossy paper, so I used some freezer paper, which is glossy on one side. Mostly, I've just used mine on metal.

Hi BJ, I like these. The landscapes are fab - look forward to seeing them when you've stamped over them. And the flowers are super. I haven't had my alcohol inks out in such a long time ... will have to dig them out and try to create a landscape and some flowers too. Elizabeth xx
