About Me

My photo
Hi, Welcome to my Blog. I'm an eclectic kind of crafter delving into many pots. I am just about managing to keep up my Scrapbooking Diary (usually about 6 months behind), plus any cards as required. I have a new found love of Watercolour and Bible Journaling plus recently Faith/Art Journaling too. I've challenged myself to make an art journal page a day for this my 60th year. Previously I've also dabbled in ATCs, Tags, Altered Books, Mixed Media, Décopatch, Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery amongst other things. I live in Surrey, UK with my husband, our son has left home now. For exercise I usually play Badminton and go Ballroom and Latin Dancing. I also like walking/Geocaching and sometimes do a bit of Bouncing on my Rebounder (mini trampoline). I have been learning to play the harp for the past 10yrs. I am now officially retired. I am a born again Christian, currently worshiping at my local Vineyard Church.

WOYWW #174 - Fabric Page

I have at last come to the final page in my Altered Book whilst doing the course run by Elizabeth. Lesson 16 is all about fabric and I was determined to use some especially as I love sewing. Fortunately there were more trousers to alter, so as I was getting the sewing machine out for those, I had no excuse. My book's theme is seasons and I needed a November page so it just had to be fireworks. The black fabric was from an old work skirt of mine which I loved and the gold and red fabric circles already had fused glue backing as they were off-cuts from when I made a banner for church.

I sewed the circles on with metallic thread and then added spirals coming out from them. I have hand sewn seed beeds around the spirals and star sequins inbetween. I have machine sewn it all onto torn out pages from my altered book but haven't got around to glueing it in yet. That might proove a bit tricky!! Oh and there is a little card I made for American friends who are going, from here in the UK, to work in France.

Well that is me for this week, if you fancy a look at other desks in the mad frensy that's called "What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!" pop over to Julia's to be amazed.

PS My son said it looks more like starfish and my husband said it was more like something biological - oh well I tried!!

Very nice! I love the fabric pages. I like to use different mediums when I work...keeps life interesting. A funny on me...when looking over some blogs I came across the term MULTI MEDIA so I called the DD and asked her what does that mean. (she has the art degrees and gives out info freely so I don't have to go on the computer.) Why that's you Momma...people who use everything when they make their art. Guess you are a multimedia artist now too! YAY! Have a great week. Vickie (no number yet)

Your fabric page is brilliant. Not sure if my very elderly Singer would cope with that advanced kind of sewing. I do lie your card, so well thought out and perfectly put together. Have a good week. xx Maggie #36

I think your fireworks look great! Getting the sewing machine out and setting it up really puts me off sewing altogether - I always leave alterations to the last minute - like the night before going to a wedding I had my dress all in pieces! - my daughter was a bit concerned that it wouldn't go back together OK, but it turned out fine in the end!

Hi BJ, I think you've done incredibly well to have kept up with your altered book - I certainly haven't, I started but then went off on holiday and it's now a lingering WIP. Love your sewn appliqued piece - looks like Catherine Wheels to me - and I think it's a great idea for a November page. Like your card too - the sentiment is such a good one for the occasion. Hope you have a good week and happy WOYWW, Elizabeth x #49

I love your husbands comment and view of your page - I can see where he's coming from - but in biology and mother nature is beauty that cannot be faked or copied - unique, just like your page. Great card for your friends too.

Oh, how I do love my British friends! Thanks for visiting me and talking about "fat balls!" I have no idea what the heck a fat ball is, but I assume it's to do with bird food and good for you for dousing the *&^& squirrel. However, knowing him, he probably loves that you give him a bath now and then! Also, I have lots and lots of fat balls around my middle, bottom, and thighs, so if you ever have a shortage over there, just give me a holler!

Your page is great - to me they look like cheerful pinwheels! And your card is wonderful! Have a great week! Darnell #145

As usual, I'm late getting here. I am very, very impressed with this page. It is perfect for November, at least I hope November has fireworks. After all, I'm from the US where we celebrate fireworks in July (grin). I love that sparkly metallic thread and your incredible sewing. You must have a super sewing machine. BTW, I was impressed that you were able to use off cuts so easily. Pretty awesome!! Another page I might have to "Steal" (JOKE) for my wrap-up.

Looks like those little screamers that come out of a large firework to me. Well done and what a lot of work sewing all those beads on. Lovely page, makes me wistful for bonfire night, though as Elizabeth says we have 4th July here which is always celebrated in a big way.
